Signs your Garage Door’s Circuit Board Needs Replacement
A garage door’s circuit board is the brains of the system. In order for your garage door to open or close when you press the button on your remote, the signal must first be translated by the circuit board before it can be sent to the opener.
The circuit board, however, is not safe from damage and deterioration and can cause other problems to the garage door. Since these issues aren’t always obvious, it’s better to have a professional come out and check out your garage door opener and fix it if necessary. Look out for these signs that your garage door’s circuit board needs attention:
Problems with the remote controls
If your garage door won’t open or close, the problem might lie within the logic board. If nothing happens when you press the button on the remote, it could be due to the following reasons:
- The battery has died and must be replaced.
- The door opener is locked.
- The signal is being distorted by outside factors.
- The receiver’s main board isn’t working.
The photo-eye detectors are malfunctioning
If the garage door’s photo-eye detectors stop functioning even though they are wired to electricity, you should check the circuit board for a problem. Put something before the photo-eye detectors to see how they react. If nothing happens, get the circuit board checked.
The garage’s other lights and/or electrical outlets are broken
It is possible that the connection to your garage door and any other appliances that share the circuit board has gone out. You can try changing the blown fuse or turning the GFCI back on. If the GFCI or breaker keeps tripping, there may be an issue with the wiring or appliances. If not, the board’s electronics might be at fault.
There was a storm in your neighborhood not too long ago
The circuit board might be fried by a severe lightning strike. Your garage door’s circuit board may need to be replaced if it hasn’t been opening and closing properly during periods of severe weather.
